Rick Perry admits he may not be quite crazy enough to compete in this year's crop of GOP contenders.
This week Perry admitted that his 2016 campaign has run its course. He is dropping out of yet another presidential contest after it has become apparent that he has lost the momentum to carry on. His funding has run out and he admits that his credibility as the craziest candidate has lost its appeal in the face of even crazier foes with whom he cannot compete.
With rivals such as Donald Trump, who has far more money and is far crazier, Perry has little chance of catching the overwhelming wave of conservative sentiment that clearly desires the craziest and most extreme candidate. Other candidates such as Ben Carson and Mike Huckabee have also easily outpaced Perry's more moderate position on government by promoting theocracy in replacement of democracy. Perry cannot compete with this and acknowledges his limitations. He says he may be dumb enough but he just isn't crazy enough. It is truly a sad day in moderate conservative politics when a quality candidate such as Rick Perry is forced to bow out of the running for the highest office in the land, especially because of the strength of more radical candidates who clearly have the unchallenged support of the Republican base.
Conservatism has definitely taken a turn when someone of Rick Perry's stature, with a proven track record exhibiting a lack of intelligence and concern for the public good, no longer arouses the interest of Republican voters.
