Aside from the insane, the bigots, the racist White Supremacists, and the other assorted delusional dimwits, who the hell voted for this monster-elect? I know sane adult people who somehow favored Trump in this election. What prompted them to do the unthinkable?
Forget the obvious Trump voter. Forget the loons and mental misfits. Focus on sane people who voted for this thing. What were they thinking? I think there are four categories of relatively sane people who voted for Trump.
First, there are the fully indoctrinated Republicans who couldn't vote non-party if their lives depended on it. Put a freakish monster up for a vote and as long as there is an 'R' after his name, he's good to go. Putin likes him? No problem. Sexual abuser? No problem. Complete lack of any sound policies or even coherent ideas? No problem. No problem at all.
Second, while there really are not enough of them to call it a demographic, very rich people voted for him because they want to stay that way and get even richer.
Third, we have the people who are so fed up with Washington politics that they are wooed by temptation and are willing to vote for a billy goat if it represents a change from the status quo. Never mind that the billy goat doesn't like you. Never mind that the billy goat will have to do things billy goats have never been able to do before. Never mind that the billy goat will eat your paycheck and crap all over the floor. This goat represents a change, so it's all good.
Fourth, you have the under-educated. Those who have never learned to think critically are easily fooled into believing things are good for them even when they are painfully hurt by those same things. Trump says he can fix it all? Great news. He says he will make America great again? Sounds great to me! How's he gonna do it? Who cares? I don't need all the details. Just vote him into the job. (Why do you think he said he loves the poorly educated?)
And finally, there are those people who have bought into the spoon-fed hype from right-wing "news" sources. They believe President Obama is a terrorist and Rush Limbaugh is a saint. They believe the economic recovery has been a recession, and the recession of 2008 was a good thing. Or if it was a bad thing it was the fault of Bill Clinton. Never mind. I take it back. These people are not in the category of sane people.
So, there you have it. President Trump is a gift from the easily fooled, the rich and powerful, the indoctrinated Republicans, the fed-up goat lovers, and the insane. Should be a really fun ride. And I hear there is a really hot special deal right now (as long as they last!) on fall-out shelters.
